Original colour lithograph by Pablo Picasso, created on 23 November 1957 and printed at Mourlot Frères, Paris.
This work was published in 1958 in the art revue XXe Siècle (No. 10, L’Écriture plastique), under the direction of Gualtieri di San Lazzaro.
The lithograph, titled La Petite Corrida (The Little Bullfight), depicts one of Picasso’s recurring themes — the bullring — expressed with vibrant, spontaneous strokes in yellow, blue, red and black, using lithographic pencil on transfer paper.
Printed on vellum paper measuring approximately 30.3 × 23.9 cm (image c. 20 × 29 cm), and plate-signed and dated in the stone “Picasso 23.11.57” lower left.
Historical context:
Picasso had paused his lithographic work for nearly a year before returning to the medium at the end of November 1957. This composition was executed specifically for XXe Siècle and marks his renewed collaboration with Fernand Mourlot, alongside other modern masters such as Dubuffet, Zao Wou-Ki, Miró, Ernst and Vasarely.
Condition:
Excellent overall condition. Brilliant, unfaded colours, well-preserved margins, clean verso. No folds or tears. Printed on fine velin paper with full margins.
