Helen Frankenthaler (1928-2011) is one of the most revered and influential abstract artists of the 20th century.
Frankenthaler immersed herself in experimental printmaking, working with lithography, etchings, woodcuts and screenprints. Printmaking was an essential component of her artistic practice.
If we consider Frankenthaler's work on her as a printmaker as a whole, her success on her in this realm can be attributed to two frequent characteristics; her restraint and color choices of her. Frankenthaler's prints are frequently less gestural than her de ella paintings, realized with a "lighter hand" with palettes more cohesive or gentle.
"A little Moore” evokes the school of painting (Color Field) Frankenthaler established, yet with a decidedly light touch. A pale gray/blue square of cloud hazily floats in the center of the work, bordered on all four sides by the charcoal background Three drops of color including tangerine, forest green, and caramel, punctuate the center Beneath them a subtle blue stripe peaks out while below it an even larger sash of dark plum runs parallel to the bottom border of the composition.
While the work is unquestionably abstract, it also manifests the sensuality and the tension evocative of her best works de ella with her superb eye for color.
