1930. Color woodcut in black and ochre brown on cardboard, 16.9 x 91.7 cm.
Unfolded trial proof prior to use as the cover of the catalogue for the first Heckel retrospective, organised by the Kunstverein ‘Kunsthütte zu Chemnitz’ in 1931. Numerous copies of the catalogue are in museum collections, but Ebner und Gabelmann is only aware of a single copy in the Museum Folkwang Essen as a single print apart from the catalogue edition. This is therefore the second known copy in this form!
On the right of the picture are the last four “Brücke” artists Otto Mueller, Erich Heckel, Karl Schmidt-Rottluff and Ernst Ludwig Kirchner. Reference: Ebner/Gabelmann 828 H; Dube 346; Bolliger 1/242
