Note: This was part of the “Moving Focus” series which was a portfolio of 26 Lithographs - sometimes combined with etching, screen printing or collage - using a new method introduced to him by Ken Tyler that involved layering transparent Mylar sheets to plan an image’s colour registration. Hockney’s fascination with cubism, explored in his photographic collages, was at play in his experimentation with perspective. The series was diverse in size, technique and colour. It was united, however, in the originality of design and perspective.
Provenance: We have a copy of the transfer document from David Hockney dated 10/10/90 , from his address in Santa Monica, California, addressed to Mr & Mrs Stead. We also have a written statement by Sue Stead dated 18/12/2019 stating that Mrs Stead worked for Paul Hockney, David Hockney’s brother, and that the present piece was given to her by Paul as part of a redundancy payment.
