With a dog pattern on the verso as an allusion to the content of the novel, which is a shorter version of Kyokutei Bakin's original 106-volume novel "Nansō Satomi Hakkenden", the longest novel in Japanese literary history. It is commonly translated as the Eight Dog Chronicles or the Tale of the Eight Dogs (also: "The Book of the Eight Dog Heroes" or "Tale of Eight Dog Warriors").
