THE UNIQUE BON A TIRER (BAT) PROOF.
Signed in pencil by the artist.
When an artist is working on an etching, he will typically print the plate few times to check the progress of the image. When one of these proofs satisfies him, he designates it the "bon à tirer" ("ready to print"), or simply "BAT". There is usually only one of these, and they are prized by collectors because they represent the moment when the artist achieved his precise artistic intention (and of course because of their rarity).
This is the bon à tirer of an extremely attractive color print.
Printed on extremely fine wove paper.
Small close tear at lower edge of sheet, well away from the image. Otherwise in perfect condition.
