In the foreword, Felixmüller explains the motif: ‘In November, I paint at my long-time art friend Hanns-Conon von der Gabelentz’s castle park, which belonged to his ancestors.’ At the time, Gabelentz was director of the Lindenau Museum in Altenburg, Thuringia, which houses one of the world’s largest collections of graphic portfolios of German Expressionism.
